- Type-material: 3 syntype major workers, 1 syntype minor worker.
- Type-localities: 1 major, 1 minor worker Argentina: Santa Fe chaco, Las Garzas, banks of Las Garzas River, 20 km. from Ocampo, 1903 (E. Wagner) (invalid restriction of type-locality by Kempf, 1972a: 50; no lectotype designated), 2 major workers Argentina, Formosa chaco, Laishi (J. Zurflüh).
- Type-depository: NHMB.
- Subspecies of crassus: Emery, 1925b: 163.
- Subspecies of brasiliensis: Kempf, 1972a: 50; Bolton, 1995b: 91.
